The National Service Scheme (NSS) Units I & II of AJK College of Arts and Science Coimbatore (Autonomous), an A+ Accredited Institution by NAAC, orchestrated a transformative 7-day NSS Special Camp from January 29th to February 4th, 2024, at Puthupathi & Pichanur Villages, leaving an enduring impact on community development. Participants engaged in a diverse array of activities, including trekking, temple visits, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan cleaning drives, and surveys on school dropouts. Their dedication showcased a strong commitment to societal upliftment, exemplified by their involvement in Rural Development Activities, Awareness and Skill Training Programmes like the Naan Mudhalvan Course, and distributing basic amenities at Puthupathy Tribal Village, further enriching the camp’s holistic approach to community enhancement
The camp was not just about physical efforts; it also focused on skill development through programs like paper bag making and block printing, enriching both participants and the communities they served. The renovation of the library at Pichanur Govt Higher Secondary School and the formation of a vegetable garden further underscored the camp’s holistic approach to community enhancement. Celebrating Kalaingar’s 100th centenary and conducting medical camps added a cultural and health dimension to the event, promoting well-being alongside education.
The camp’s impact extended beyond immediate activities including vital awareness campaigns, such as prevention of drug abuse and hygiene education. Notably, the Poster Making Competition on the theme ‘Unity is Strength’ encapsulated the ethos of collaboration and solidarity among participants and community members. From yoga and health training to river cleaning and valedictory ceremonies, every aspect of the camp resonated with the spirit of service and collective progress.
