On August 1, 2024, Bharathiar University Coimbatore, National Service Scheme organised along with its affiliated colleges, organized DRUG FREE CAMPUSES A Campaign for Bharathiar University and its Affiliated Colleges at the Usha Kirthilal Mehta Convension Center. The event, held at 11:00 AM, aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of drug addiction and promote healthy, drug-free lifestyles among students.

Prof. Dr. Ajeet Kumar Lal Mohan, Vice Chancellor Convenor Committee Member of Bharathiar University and delivered the special address. He expressed pride in the participation of students from over 100 colleges across Coimbatore, Tirupur, Nilgiris, and Erode districts. He emphasized the importance of mental and physical health, urging students to engage in sports and community activities to stay drug-free. He highlighted the “Drug-Free Tamil Nadu Campaign” initiated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister to eradicate drug use in the state.

Thiru.V. Balakrishnan I.P.S. Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City, the chief guest, appreciated Bharathiar University’s initiative. He spoke about the relationship between drug addiction and digital addiction, educating students on the risks and the importance of early intervention. He explained the police sister system, aimed at supporting vulnerable children such as those without parents or from single-parent households he also stressed the need for awareness and psychological counselling.

During the event, students interacted with Mr. V. Balakrishnan I.P.S, who answered their questions. He provided insights for identifying and supporting the drug users. The event concluded with all participants, including special guests, taking a pledge to work towards a drug-free Tamil Nadu. Over 1000 students and teachers from the National Service Scheme program attended the event.

Prof. Dr. Rupa Gunaseelan Registrar-in-charge, Bharathiar University Coimbatore welcomed the attendees, and Dr. R. Annadurai Professor, Department of Physical Education Programme Co-ordinator i/c, National Service Scheme Bharathiar University, Coimbatore expressed gratitude with a vote of thanks.
