On September 26, 2024, the Department of Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality at AJK College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore (Autonomous), an A+ accredited institution by NAAC, organized a hands-on workshop on “3D Animation Integration with AR and VR.” The workshop featured two industry experts from FIST-O, Coimbatore: Mr. Nijamudeen, the Founder, and Mrs. Agasthiya, the Project Head. The primary goal of the event was to introduce students to the seamless fusion of 3D animation with augmented and virtual reality technologies, enhancing live performances and creating immersive, multisensory experiences.
During the workshop, students gained hands-on proficiency in 3D modelling for virtual and augmented reality applications. The resource persons demonstrated the design process for 3D models, highlighting key steps in integrating AR and VR. Participants were provided with storyboard concepts and learned advanced lighting techniques to create high-quality 3D models. Emphasis was placed on developing models with both low and high polygon counts, sculpting software, and environmental lighting to enhance realism in AR and VR projects.
Participants also explored texturing techniques, including the application of colour, patterns, and material attributes like glossiness and roughness, to enhance the depth and visual appeal of 3D models. The session concluded with a demonstration of industry-standard animation processes, providing students with a thorough understanding of how to bring their 3D models to life.
Students found the workshop incredibly valuable, praising the clarity with which the resource persons explained complex concepts and their practical application in AR and VR. The hands-on sessions helped boost their confidence in working with these innovative technologies. The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where all student queries were addressed, further enhancing their learning experience.
